A Friend of mine I met on line, was kind enough to research my family for me! He found that My Grandfather had a farm 5 miles away from my Grandfather, and they took their last name, often from their farms. for example, my Grandfather l;ived in a large aspen tree area, Asperheim= "home of the Aspen. " I found this interesting, comming from a Norwegian from "back home" LOL .. ( He also thought LOL, meant Lots of Love.. great - this exchange of culture.!
He also told me, they don't say "Uff-da" like they do in Minnesota. lol., but they indead still eat Lefsa, not much Lutefisk either. Many eat brown cheese and bread for breakfest. :-)...
Many Norwegians roll their own cigarettes, as they are very expenisive, but if you are sick, everyone has insurance. You can attend any college, anywhere, and the government pays for it. You also pay a high Income tax to cover this he said.
I was asked to share this on my page, by the Web ring. I thought who would want to read about my family? then I realized, what we are all doing looking at these pages! (silly me! ) and I also realized why we love our ancestors so much, as every Norwegian I meet, bends over backwards to share their culture, and teach you anything, including the language! they are generous, and I still see we second generation Norsk are rasied very similar...
Thanks! Tusen takk..
Take time to try the language, it is fun! Get a penpal!! It is alot of fun, and very interesting.
